Our History

Wilson County ESD 4 was founded in October 2019 after a public vote spearheaded by the former Wilson County Volunteer Ambulance Association (WCVAA). The WCVAA provided volunteer EMS services to Floresville and the surrounding area of Wilson County since 1973, but realized that the needs of the community in 2019 surpassed their capacities as a volunteer organization. The creation of the Emergency Services District, a special property-taxing district with a governing Board, cumulated with the transfer of equipment, vehicles, personnel, and response responsibility from the former WCVAA to the new Wilson County ESD 4 in October 2020. Today, Wilson County ESD 4 provides 911 emergency service to 411 square miles of Wilson County, including the cities of Floresville and Poth. The District has over has over twenty paid EMS personnel and operates out of two EMS stations: a Central station in Floresville and a satellite station in Canada Verde that opened in 2022. Wilson County ESD 4 responds to over 2,000 emergency call for service a year, in addition to participating in various community events and offering regular public education classes throughout the year.
